LIGNIA® Wood Company, the British timber modification business, has announced that it will be showcasing LIGNIA Yacht, the only proven wood alternative to Burmese teak in yacht decking, at METSTRADE in Amsterdam in November.

The company, which will be exhibiting between 13th to 15th November, can be found in the Construction & Material Pavilion on stand CMP.101.EL. and will also be the Official British Marine Networking Reception sponsor at the event.

LIGNIA’s patent-pending process involves taking sustainably-sourced, FSC softwood and modifying it into a wood with all the performance and aesthetic beauty of Burmese teak. The resulting modified timber for the yacht market, branded LIGNIA Yacht, is enhanced to include greater durability against rot, with improved stability, density and hardness, while also retaining a rich golden-brown colour that resembles teak.

Being sourced from FSC-certified plantations, LIGNIA Yacht is legal, sustainable and creates a significant reduction in the untenable harvesting of tropical rainforests. As such it is an entirely appropriate product for the marine industry, bringing much-needed transparency and peace of mind for yacht builders and owners.

LIGNIA Wood Company has set up the first plant in the UK dedicated to manufacturing modified timber, with price stability and continuity of supply forming the major components of its market proposition. The business is now starting to export globally, and is currently finalising significant distribution agreements with major international importers and stockists across Europe, the USA and further afield.

Hans Ng, CEO of LIGNIA Wood Company, said: This is an exciting time for the business and we can’t wait to showcase our beautiful and hard-working LIGNIA Yacht product at METSTRADE. LIGNIA Yacht is proven, trusted and endorsed by world leaders in yacht deck manufacturing and it matches and in some cases exceeds the performance of Burmese teak. The yacht market is our primary objective for 2019 and we are actively working with specialist timber importers, yacht deck manufacturers and yacht brands now.

“In addition, we’re really pleased to be the sole sponsor of the Official British Marine Networking Reception at METSTRADE and are confident that by supporting the British Marine Federation in this way we will be helping to further the work they do in supporting all strands of the marine industry”
