Grade II listed Lodge House fitted with LIGNIA modified timber doors and windows
Cottrell Park Golf Resort is set in an ancient and beautiful location in the Vale of Glamorgan, close to Cardiff, the capital city of Wales.
The Resort covers 400 acres and includes a 36-hole golf course, on-site accommodation, two sport simulators, driving range, two putting greens, nature trail, fishing, and a substantial Clubhouse.
LIGNIA used for Cottrell Park
The entrance to the Cottrell Park Golf Resort boasts a Grade II listed Lodge House which was renovated in 2019.
This Lodge House is exposed to the elements with no natural cover – Welsh winters can be fierce and mostly wet. LIGNIA was specified for its natural beauty, being real wood that is modified to last for more than 50 years (with a 50-year warranty against rot and fungal decay in above ground applications).
LIGNIA is also a small movement timber and so was ideal for the window frames and doors, especially given the harsh climatic extremes across any given year.
Random grained (flat sawn) LIGNIA wood was specified by the owner of the Resort for the window frames, the main solid door, and the double back doors. The thicker LIGNIA stock used was achieved by lamination using a two-part polyurethane foam adhesive.
As LIGNIA is a highly durable wood (Class 1 durability) it is highly resistant to attack by insects and fungi and so will last for decades.

LIGNIA’s modification process results in a wood that is pH neutral and so this means that standard fixings can be used without fear of corrosion; as there was no need for expensive stainless steel fixings this resulted in a lower cost during the installation process.
LIGNIA is highly sustainable, coming as it does from FSC®-certified plantations. It is fitting that this beautiful Grade II building, built during a time when natural resources were plentiful and there was little pressure on the environment, should now be fitted with visually stunning, ecologically-friendly timber that will last for decades.
