How Lignia™ is made
Technical FAQs
Q. What are the products standards/property standards for modified wood?
Attributes such as weight, hardness, colour and moisture content are
managed as required. Fortification creates timber that is significantly more
dimensionally stable than softwood and as good as many premium
hardwoods.
Q. How does impregnation affect recycling possibilities?
Lignia can be treated like any other solidwood. Once chipped and exposed
to moisture in the ground the compounds, due to their organic base, break
down with bacteria. In fact due to the nitrogen within the lignia
compounds chipped timber does compost extremely well.
Q. How do you deal with the product at the “end” of its life?
Lignia can be recycled like any other solidwood.
Q. How will you substantiate the long term performance of the product?
The process of locking compounds into Lignia is irreversible. If used for interior applications lignia will last as long as traditional timber of a similar weight per cubic metre.
Q. The product seems to be available only in restrictive lengths (Skirting at 2.1 m long). Other materials on offer are available up to 6 m.
Lengths are available up to 6metres long. Standard board or component blank sizes are:
150mm x 25mm x 3.0m plus
100mm x 40mm x 3.0m plus
Larger and longer sections are available subject to volume requirements.
